Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Usually, when you deposit a check, you first need to sign the back of it. This is called endorsing the check. Underneath the line where you sign the check is a small area for notes. To sign a check over to someone else you should first endorse it, then write Pay to the order of: followed by the person's name.

To cash a check that's not made out to you have it signed over in your name, by the person it's made out to. It must say “Pay to the order of NEW PERSON" then signed underneath.

Write the name of the business. Sign your name below the business name. Beneath your signature, indicate your title, such as “owner" or "president."
When you receive a check from someone, you must endorse it before cashing it or depositing it. This is done by signing your name on the back of the left end of the check. You can also limit who can cash it by specifying in your endorsement that it is only to be deposited into your specified account at Provident.
In order to deposit or cash a check, you first need to endorse it. Blank endorsement: A blank endorsement is made by signing your name on the back of the check. You must sign it exactly the way it appears on the Pay to the Order of line.
Plan Before Endorsing a Check to Someone Else. Confirm the Person/Entity Will Accept a Signed-Over Check. Ensure the Person's/Entity's Bank Will Accept the Check. Sign the Back of the Check in the Top Section of the Endorsement Area. Write Pay to the Order of and the Third Party's Name Below Your Signature.
Can someone endorse a U.S. Treasury Check and sign it over to someone else to either cash or deposit into the bank? Answer: There is nothing in the Uniform Commercial Code or Treasury regulations to prevent the negotiation of a Treasury check to a third party before it is deposited in a bank.
If you don't endorse it, the bank will stamp it and credit your account. If you are trying to cash it directly without depositing it, then the teller will give it back to you and tell you to endorse it.
Endorsement is not required on check. If you want to withdraw cash money from bank, they would ask you to endorse the same. If you want to deposit in your account, endorsement is not required.
When you write a check, the only place you need to sign is on the front right on the signature line. However, it is possible to include instructions on the back of a check when you write it. If you receive a check, you'll need to sign the back to deposit or cash it.
No Endorsement You don't always have to endorse checks. Some banks allow you to deposit checks without a signature, account number, or anything else on the back. With no endorsement, nobody can see your signature or your account number unless your bank adds the account number during processing.
If someone gives you a check, and they've spelled your name incorrectly, endorse the back of the check with the incorrect spelling, and then sign your name with the correct spelling on the back of the check.
The person making the check signs the front. The person receiving the check signs the back. Both of these are called endorsing the check. It is required to endorse the check before depositing it or transferring it to someone else.
