For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
What is the maximum distance an FM transmitter can broadcast without a license? The quick answer is approximately 200 feet for an FM Transmitter covered under Part 15 (Read FCC Public Notice dated July 24, 1991). The full answer is much more complicated than that: 250 UV/meter @ 3 meters (also measured as 48 BUV/m).
ILLEGAL FM TRANSMITTERS These transmitters claim to operate anywhere from a half watt (500 MW) to over 7 watts. While they may claim to be FCC legal, they are not: Transmitters like the three shown above ARE ILLEGAL FOR SALE OR USE IN THE UNITED STATES, CANADA, JAPAN AND THE EUROPEAN UNION.
UNLICENSED LEGAL FM Regardless of popular misconceptions, it is not legal to broadcast on FM at low power, or at any power, without a license from the FCC. ... The section of the Federal Code of Regulations that regulates legal, unlicensed FM transmissions is Title 47, Part 15.
Some FM transmitters are devices that require a specific Android app to function. These offer the potential of a more reliable experience, but come with several risks. They only work on devices that support the app, and once the developer stops providing updates, you're out of luck.
Ofcom today announced that the use of certain low power FM transmitters, which wirelessly connect MP3 players and other personal audio devices to radios and in-car entertainment systems, will be legal for use in the UK from 8 December 2006. ... The regulations set out the technical specifications for FM transmitters.
Available from these sellers. >Long Range: This 1 watt FM transmitter is able to cover 0.6 miles in open land.
In practice, 50W into a decent whip on a ground plane (you know, like a 1/4 wave spike on the roof of your car) will get you comfortably into most repeaters within 20-50 miles (assuming they're in good high locations). A multi-element, rotatable Magi up in the air (even on your chimney) will get you much further.
Being low-powered, most transmitters typically have a short range of 100300 feet (30100 meters), depending on the quality of the receiver, obstructions and elevation.
For example, a 25 watt marine radio will roughly have a maximum range of 60 nautical miles (111 km) between antennas mounted on tall ships, but that same radio will only have a range of 5 nautical miles (9 km) between antennas mounted on small boats at sea level.
Some handheld radios have 6 watts which can reach up to 20 miles in the right conditions. Having a radio with you while participating in water sports will help to keep you safe. A handheld radio can supplement your existing mounted marine radio as a backup for communications.
