Real-time text (RTT) is text transmitted instantly as it is typed or created. Recipients can immediately read the message while it is being written, without waiting. Real-time text is used for conversational text, in collaboration, and in live captioning.

Implementing Real-Time Text. This page describes how to implement Real-Time Text (RTT) in Android 9. RTT is a feature for deaf or hard of hearing users that replaces Text Telephone (TTY) technology. When typing, the text appears and is sent as it is typed, character by character.
When the RTT call comes into your phone, you'll see this message: “RTT allows text messages to be sent during a phone call between recipients. This service is typically used by those with hearing impairments. Press the RTT button to communicate using text with the caller.” Tap Got It to accept the RTT call.
