I signed up for a year. Now simple edit tool to use erase etc expects me to pay more and doesn't allow those tools. That, IMO is a bit too unfriendly. Allowing me to use for some time and then asking to pay for extended period of time would make sense to me as I would see a value in buying these additional editing tools/

If you believe that your postpaid device is eligible to be unlocked and want to request a SIM unlock, contact Sprint Customer Care by dialing *2 from your Sprint mobile device or call 888-211-4727. Sprint Forward customers must contact Customer Care at 855-639-4644 to request that their device be unlocked.
But the good news is that carriers are required to inform you that your device is eligible for unlocking, most likely on your bill. (Newer phones from Sprint will see their SIM slots automatically unlock when they are eligible.) Carriers have two days after receiving an unlock request to get back to the customer.
Usually, the unlock code is obtained from the supplier within a maximum period of 24 business hours, although there are cases where this could take anywhere from one hour up to three business days. Other times, the code is provided in less than 15 minutes.
Android devices on Sprint ICC unlock or go to Settings and search for ICC Unlock. Tap ICC unlock for a settings refresh. If ICC unlock is not available, try updating the data profile as follows. Please note: Performing an ##RTN# function on an Android device will re-lock the device to Sprint.
Select “Advanced Options” or “Options,” then “SIM CARD” or “SIM.” Type “SPED” on the screen, then type “MEP” while holding the “Alt” key and press “2.” Enter the unlock code when prompted. Most Sprint phones follow this or a similar procedure to enter an unlock code.
Usually you'd wait anywhere from 24 to 48 hours for approval — and then with iPhones since they're unlocked remotely instead of manually with a code, there is an additional 24-hour wait from when to unlock is approved and when you can complete the reset process.
The person requesting to unlock is a current Sprint customer that can authenticate as the Account Holder or an Authorized Contact. The account is in good standing. Each phone number on the account is allowed up to two unlocked devices within a 12-month period.

ICC stands for Universal Integrated Circuit Card, and it is a new generation SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) included in cell phones or notebooks used in some high speed wireless networks. Sprint will automatically unlock the device when it becomes eligible.
Contact Sprint to have your password reset if you have accidentally locked yourself out of your cell phone. The number to contact Sprint is 888-211-4727. You can also dial *2 from your mobile phone to be transferred directly to Sprint's customer service department.
