When you change your business name, you generally do not have to file for a new EIN. Instead, you submit an EIN name change. If you change your name soon after you file your annual tax return, then you can inform the IRS of the EIN number change name through a signed notification, similar to a sole proprietorship.
If the EIN was recently assigned and filing liability has yet to be determined, send Business Name Change requests to IRS, Stop 6055, Kansas City, MO 64999. In some situations a name change may require a new Employer Identification Number (EIN) or a final return.
Beginning January 1, 2014, any entity with an EIN, such as a plan sponsor, must report a change in the identity of their plan's responsible party on Form 8822-B, Change of Address or Responsible Party — Business, within 60 days of the change.
To transfer EIN to new owner isn't possible. Wins, or Employer Identification Numbers, are not transferable from one business owner to another. There are circumstances in which a business owner may need a new EIN, however.
Generally, businesses need a new EIN when their ownership or structure has changed. It is not possible to use the same EIN for different Entity types or for businesses that are not related. Because these types of businesses fall under different tax rules, they require separate Wins.
You can change your address with the IRS directly by completing IRS form 8822 b. If you are the responsible party for a business, you will need to use Form 8822-B to change your address. When using either of these forms, you will be asked to provide basic information, including your old address and your new address.
You may correct the address legibly on the mailing label that came with your tax package, or write the new address on your income tax return when you file. When your tax return is processed, the IRS will update your records. The U.S. Post Office will furnish the IRS with change of address updates weekly.
Generally, you need to apply to the IRS for a new Employer Identification Number, or EIN, for any new business. However, under certain conditions, you can use a previous EIN, such as for a limited liability company or a partnership.
It is not possible to use the same EIN for different Entity types or for businesses that are not related. With one EIN, if any of the businesses under that number is sued, the assets of all the businesses are at risk. If you have multiple businesses that are taxed differently, such as a corporation and an LLC.
For Sole Proprietors, only one EIN can be issued to the individual. The Sole Proprietor may change business type/name by filing the appropriate documentation with his or her local municipality. For all other entities, there are no limits on the number of Wins one may file for new businesses.

The Name Change option is on line E on Form 1120 or line H on Form 1120S. Partnerships file using Form 1065 and communicate the name change by checking Name change on line G and then filling in the new name. Sole proprietorship communicate the name change by writing a letter to the IRS.
